Almost immediately I got a screaming run on my new Wychwood bite alarm, and hooked into a carp that felt quite small, and was heading rapidly for the island. I managed to turn it, and then it came at me at speed. After a while it slowed down, started plodding, and then felt heavier. Eventually, it dawned on me that it was quite a big one.
When it began to tire it rolled over at the surface, and I gasped. It was huge, and could even be close to 20lb. As it turned out it was just over 18lb and I was ectstatic, and shaking. I really needed a cigarette.
All afternoon I was getting bites, missing them, and getting snagged by large carp. Then, at about 7pm I finally landed another 10 pounder.
I nearly topped off a perfect day with a 14 pounder, but after playing it for about 15 minutes, it simply pinged off the hook. I was devastated. But over all it was a great day.
