It was a humid, over cast day much like last Saturday, and my first job was to get the trusty bivvy up for base camp.
The action started at around 3.10 pm when I started to get movement on my float fished strawberry boilie. I had had a couple of takes, and fish pinging off, when a screamer happened.
While I was playing this fish, my ledger rod bite alarm screamed into life. Shit. After two seconds panic, I slowly moved to the other rod, set the clutch, then stood on the butt to stop it getting dragged in. Once I had landed and unhooked the first carp, I then picked up the second rod expecting the carp to be gone or snagged, but what joy, neither of these things had happened, and I landed a monster 15 pounder. It was very angry.
Amazingly, at around 5 pm, the exact same thing happened, and again I managed to land both.
Lots of bad luck then occurred, with tangles and missed bites. Toward the end of the day, I lifted into one on the ledger, but missed it, so I just dumped the lead about 3 feet from the bank, and carried on with the float rod. But blow me, when it came time to pack up, I found a good 14 pounder on the end it. I played it for ages then I lost concentration for a split second, and it wrapped my line around a branch on the bank, flicked it's tail, and snapped me, Very clever.
What a day.
