As I was driving to the lake the sun suddenly came out and I got the feeling I was going to have a good day's fishing. It was very cold last night, but as the sun came out it quickly warmed up to about 15 C. My optimism was quickly dashed once I arrived at the lake - there was a fishing match on and so Horseshoe Lake was closed.
I therefore set up on the smaller match lake, not very hopeful of much action and I was right. I ledgered and float fished, both rigs were with shell fish boilies, hard on the bottom. After three hours of no bites, but catching a bit of a sun tan, I quickly moved to the main lake as soon as the match was over. I fished in my favourite swim, the round shaped bay, and got a steady number of bites, but missed them all. No activity on the bolt rig.
I actually hooked into two medium sized carp for a few seconds before their mad dash for the reeds got them off the hook. Very frustrating. I stayed until it was nearly dark (about half six) in desperation to catch a fish, any fish, so I could try out the fish catch app. Typical. I really must get myself some surface fishing gear. I think I need to adapt and be more flexible in my approach, and try out different methods.
The only thing of note to happen, was a giant rat flew out of the bushes at me. Nice. I shit myself.
Try again next week !
