Saturday was really mild and without a breath of wind. I thought I would try somewhere new again, in my relentless search for somewhere to replace what I had at Marsh Farm i.e. loads of carp with an average size of 10 lbs, in beautiful surroundings.
There was a match on so I was restricted to one half of the small lake. It is about two and a half feet deep all over and a funny lime green colour to the water. They are very friendly there, with several people coming to talk to me, and give me advice on what baits to use, what tactics etc.
One, quite attractive older lady was reeling in big carp after big carp, but everyone else was struggling a bit, me especially. I only got two bites all day.
What can I learn from this ? If (and it's a big if) I go here again I will need to fine down my rigs to about 6-8lb main line, and a fluorocarbon hook length. I need a variety of baits, especially expander pellet and sweetcorn.
It was quite a boring day, the highlight being the owner bringing me a cup of tea !
