Today started slowly with quite a few bream, and gradually got better. There is still a cold wind which is uncomfortable to sit in, and it looks likely to taint the whole summer. The coldest winter in 50 years means that the North Sea is well below its normal temperature, meaning easterly winds are very chilly for this time of year.
However, it does not seem to be affecting the fishing. At tea time i went through a period of catching two big carp and a huge perch. I did my usual trick of placing a bit quietly under a tree, and got bites within ten minutes. The new Shimano rod is perfect for my needs, and it has only taken me three years to find a rod for float fishing for big carp !
After a while it got really cold, and a massive amount of blossom got dumped by nearby trees, coating the entire lake, falling like snow, and eventually clogging up my tackle. I gave up quite early because of this, which is a shame, because it was shaping up to be a great evenings fishing. Oh, and Stoo turned up to say hello.
